LAStheatre is an award-winning, artist-led theatre company rooted in East Kent and touring across the UK and Ireland. We create joyful theatre and cultural experiences in theatres, schools, museums, village halls and public spaces.
LAS is an Irish word meaning “to set alight”. Through play, we aim to ignite imaginations, spark connection and bring people together. Our name also connects us to our home community of Thanet - an island whose name is thought to derive from the Gaelic word for fire!
Many of our productions begin with a big question about the world around us. Through carefully crafted theatrical experiences, we give children and their adults a playful vocabulary for exploring important ideas together. Whether asking questions about nature, identity, courage or community, we believe theatre can help create meaningful conversations across generations.
Fundamentally, we believe that early cultural experiences matter. We want every child in East Kent to feel that creativity and culture are for them.
Through long-term relationships with schools, teachers and families across Thanet, we involve children directly in the development of productions and projects - ensuring the work is shaped by their imaginations and experiences.
The work we do locally not only influences our productions, but continues to shape LAStheatre as an organisation. Alongside touring theatre, we collaborate with partners across the UK to develop place-based projects, creative learning programmes and cultural events to connect communities and kindle important conversations.
