FUTURE CITIES
in collaboration with SNAPS (Stockton), Tidemill Academy (London), Garling Primary (Thanet), Drapers Mills Primary (Thanet) and Village Primary (Stockton)
411 disabled and non-disabled young people took part in the R&D of The Light Princess - see video. Together we discussed the story of The Light Princess. played games based rooted in the themes of the show, and together created a city that was good for people (accessible) and good for the planet (sustainable). These workshops were vital in exploring how we tackle these complicated topics with young audiences. They also fed into the narrative of the show shaping the vision for a better world that Orla and the Light Princess build together at the end of the story.
CREATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROJECT (CEP) and AUDEINCE DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
260 disabled and non-disabled young people took part in in collaboration with Palm Bay Primary (Thanet), Laleham Gap (Thanet), Redriff Primary City of London Academy and Holy Trinity (London).
As part of the CEP we trained 4 Kent based artists in the principals of Universal Design. They collaborated with students at mainstream school, Palm Bay Primary, and specialist school, Laleham Gap, to put this practice to the test. Exploring how arts activities can be constructed to build connection and allow individual children to respond in a way that’s right for them. The CEP culminated with the artists facilitating a session with both schools simultaneously and utilising this training. The workshops developed as part of the CEP, and founded in the ethos of the production, were extended free of charge to schools and community groups that we thought might be interested attending the live show.
