What is The Enlightenment Cafe?
The Enlightenment Café is an event that brings together artists, scientists, philosophers, and academic specialists placing them in a theatrical setting that enhances the way they talk about their work.
The Enlightenment Café’s core aims–
1. CREATE THEATRE –
To create quality immersive and/or site-specific theatre themed across a series of inventive and exciting topics.
2. COLLABORATION WITH INSPIRING MINDS –
Instead of actors recreating the work of scientists and other experts, we collaborate directly with academic institutions, doctors, artists and experts to promote their work and communicate their specialism to a wider audience.
3. WIDEN UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD –
Through theatre and play we strive to further our audiences understanding of the world around them. Whether that is learning about the modern day advancements in psychiatry by attending a Victorian ward round at Bedlam, to show how things have changed, or learning about the work of epidemiologists at the Health Protection Agency by living through a zombie apocalypse. The range of topics we can cover is infinite.
The beauty of The Enlightenment Café is that it can work at festivals, as a small or large-scale standalone event or a pop-up space.
